Andrew invented a riddle

See if you can figure it out...

Q: A girl is walking her dog. The girl is holding on to the dog with a leash. The dog jumps higher than the Empire State Building. The girl stays on the ground and never lets go of the leash. How can this be?

Overheard

SOPHIE (Upon seeing a photo of Napoleon Dynamite, in her best "Ethan-doing-Napoleon-Dynamite" voice): What do you THINK?

(She has never seen that movie. I have no idea how she made the connection from the photo to what she hears Ethan imitating all the time. She is clearly much smarter than she looks. Gosh.)

Overheard

Today Ethan told Emma that he's from Dorkheadland, a magical place where "everything has a fat chance of happening."

Our trip to Fall Festival

We were going to take the kids to the toy museum and ice cream parlor yesterday, but we got distracted by a bunch of carnival rides on the way. We'll check out the toy museum another day.

Andrew got his Wolf badge last night

Ginger got a pin, and no blood was drawn.

Overheard x2

#1

EMMA: I don't like being kidnapped. It's too boring.
ME: Huh? Have you been kidnapped before?
EMMA: No. I just know it's too boring cause all you have to do is sit there like this. (And then she showed me how you have to sit: on the ground with your legs stretched out straight.)

#2

ANDREW (at dinner): I don't like this food. It has too much flavor.

Maps

Southwest Airlines sent Emma some junk mail the other day. Emma was excited to discover a map on the mailer, which she has been carrying around on her adventures so nobody gets lost. The photo above is from Emma's recent skink hunting trip with Ethan. (They didn't find any skinks, but they didn't get lost. Indiana is on the map!)

Sailing

Our friends just bought a used 15' sailboat (for $300!). They invited us to join them on its maiden voyage yesterday. We took it out on a lake near our house, where the wind was not always cooperative. But oh man, it was fun.

Sophie played with her friend Christian.
When they weren't in the boat, the older kids conducted "research" on the wildlife. They brought home a dead crawfish, two crawfish claws, a decomposing snake skin and a chicken bone. All of which somehow made it back with us and into the house. Awesome.

Overheard

At church on Sunday, Sophie got out of the car with her "pitty dess on," looked up at me with her eyebrows raised, and pointed to herself while saying "Cute."
