Do any of you get spiders this large in your house? Maybe in Texas? We get these all the time. According to our resident bug expert they are wolf spiders. This one seems particularly large. I haven't killed it yet, because I'm not looking forward to feeling its weight or crunch inside the paper towel while I transfer it to its watery grave (the toilet). So for now it's living on the stairs to our basement. I'll give it another hour or two before execution. Enough time for one final meal.

yikes! i am still dreading the day i find a scorpion in our house. i know it is inevitable here in the desert. i find myself frequently scanning the ceilings and edges of the floors of our rooms. i am scared to death! i hope the crunch of this spider wasn't too bad as you killed him.
i wish you could have all seen the look on mom's face last night when sweet little audrey came out to show her our pet tarantula crawling up her arm. we have not found a spider like that in our house, our bug guy comes ever 6 weeks. geckoes, we find. the get put under salad bowls until neal gets home to release them. but they're not nearly that icky!

Think I am glad I live in Ca and the bug man sprays outside every few months. Yuk!

I bet you also don't remember having a spider egg sack hatch on the ceiling of what is now the guest room. But that happened too. The ceiling was COVERED in tiny little spiders. Ugh.
Here's a recluse. They're not very nice. They're poisonous. Wolf spiders, like the one on the stairs are beneficial and not poisonous. But they look scary.
Thanks for the clarity. Wolf spiders are definitely preferable. Have Audrey send pictures of Charlotte on her arm, or the snakes. Fortunately you have an expert in Indy.
Ewww... I have wolf spiders in my house, too, and they completely freak me out. I've gotten over my fear of the teeny, tiny house spiders, but I don't think I'll *ever* get used to wolf-spiders! They look too much like tarantulas to me! Ewww!!!
