Princeton's collection of death masks

Princeton has a cool collection of life and death masks from famous historical figures, like Newton, Robespierre, and Cromwell. It's fun to see what all these people looked like--kind of like us, but with bad teeth.

p.s. My favorite is Dante, who apparently died in a very bad mood.

that is both quite creepy but also fascinating...it's so weird to see robespierre's real face! how normal he looks, for being so crazy. :)

Roger had a mask made of his face; of course, because he is still alive, I guess I shouldn't refer to it as a 'death mask'. I thought it rather small, and Rog told me that it had shrunk in the oven. hmmm

Check out Canova's death mask. He looks like he had been dead for some time before it was made. James Dean's is cool too--all painted. Interesting.
