Marshmallow

That's what we're thinking of calling Sophie these days because she is so a) squishy and b) mellow.

Tonight we watched "Night at the Museum" with the kids--an event they've been waiting for since the Netflix DVD arrived on Tuesday. We pretended like it was the movie theater and turned out the lights and ate popcorn and Starbursts. Except at the movie theater they don't make you eat popcorn while sitting on a sheet to keep the floor clean, but whatever.

I fell asleep about 10 minutes into the movie, while sitting on the couch holding Sophie. (Never invite me to any Friday night parties.) Sophie sat on my lap for over ONE HOUR while I slept (she was not in danger of falling off, don't worry!). She never complained--she sat there patiently the entire time, singing her little songs and playing with her hands.

When the movie finished, Ginger and I put the big kids to bed. I took Sophie to her room, wrapped her up and put her on the bed. She didn't seem tired, but it was time for bed and I figured why not? Within two minutes she was asleep, sucking on her fingers. Again, no complaints, not even a peep.

We all think she's perfect, and such a blessing.

Andrew's school presentation

Andrew wrote a book for school, and presented it to his class today. We're very proud of him!

The video is here. (Sorry about the poor volume!)

Mitt Romney one-liners

Romney spoke at the 122nd Gridiron Club dinner in DC recently, an event where the speakers usually try to poke fun at politicians and the media. Here are some of his best lines:

* Many people think Mormons are square, but Harry Reid and Orrin Hatch are Mormons and Romney recently joined them for a night on the town. He'd love to talk about it, but 'what happens in Disneyland, stays in Disneyland.'

* It's tough being a Republican in Democrat-dominated Massachusetts, Romney said, it's 'like being a Mormon in a room full of alcoholics. Like here.'

* Romney said he spent some time in Utah running the 2002 Winter Olympics. Utah teaches abstinence education, like many other states, but unlike other states, Utah doesn't do it because the state fears kids will get pregnant. They do it because they believe 'sex could lead to dancing.'

* Taking on a competitor, Romney brought up the point that Rudy Giuliani has been pictured in drag with Donald Trump. It's not Rudy's three wives that will be a problem, Romney quipped, but his 'one husband.' "

Now that summer's over...

...Emma can get back to playing in the snow. Here she is making a "snow puff" yesterday.

In April.

The Face Transformer

You have to try this.
Upload a photo and watch what it can do. Here I am as an old man:

Yikes! Back in my day, we didn't have these fancy face transformers...

Here I am as a Manga character:

I'll spare you the "Apeman" version, lest you never sleep soundly again.

Okay. Your turn.

Our trip to Chicago

Ethan and Sophie with Sue the T-Rex.

With the stuffed elephants at the Field Museum.

Here's Andrew sleeping on an Egyptian bed, just like an ancient Egyptian.

Playing on a turtle at the Shedd Aquarium.

"Daddy, look how tall I am. Take a picture."

Watching the beluga whales at the aquarium. Whales!

Sophie had better things to do.

Happy Easter

Yesterday the weather was in the 80s, today it's in the low 30s.

Just in time for our family trip to Chicago. As Emma is fond of saying lately, with an exasperated valley-girl lilt, "WHAT. EVER."

We went to the zoo today...

...and Sophie fell asleep, thumb in mouth. Ginger will post more photos in a bit.

Daddy LOOK how BIG I am.

Emma is very impressed with the rate at which she is growing. In fact, she shows us almost every day how big she has grown since the day before, and how much farther she can jump.
