11

We recently celebrated Andrew's 11th birthday. He's old. For his birthday he wanted a facebook account, a gmail account, a cell phone and a laptop. We gave him the free things on that list, and some money to save for a laptop. Be sure to accept his friend request on facebook if he sends you one. He's eager to destroy you in Scrabble.

He wanted to celebrate by eating "something exotic." The local sushi place was out of sea urchin, so he got some raw eel and octopus tentacle. I don't think he'll order those again.

After we celebrated and set him up with his new online accounts, Ethan said "Now all you need is a cell phone." Then he'll have all his needs taken care of, I guess. Wait until 9th grade, we told him.

I know he would love a cell phone now but good decision to wait. When they have cell phones they forget how to communicate face to face and just text and talk on the phone. I worry about our future these kids and their oral face to face communication skills. Anough said, know he had a good birthday.
Love him lots

you're a nice dad to let him have a fb account at 11--we waited till rachel was 13 and she suddenly has 300+ friends?! I had no idea she even knew that many jr high kids?!?! what in the world?? i know this coming from her mommy who has over 875 fb friends--oh SNAP! i'm sure you monitor it like a hawk like we do--

we do give them a cell phone when they are 11 but it doesnt come with texting and it's one of those 10 dollar cheapy ones you get at like target--basically just a phone to call us and make them look somewhat "cool!" HA once they are in jr high they can add the texting onto it--which it REALLY helps with keeping our "quiet voices" in the house--no more YELLING up the stairs "GIRLSSSSS Time for DINNERRRRRR!!!!" i just text rachel "time for dinner-tell the other girls!" and bam they quietly come downstairs!

wow--raw eel and octopus!??! jon would be IMPRESSED. my girls will eat anything as well--i love that he chose "exotic!"

Wait till I tell my boys what Andrew ate for his birthday. They are going to be pretty impressed.

He does look very old in that picture! i love how he always wants to eat weird things - there's a great National Geographic article this month about how insect eating will become more accepted! mom
