Runny babbits

During our trip to the Bug Bowl this morning, Ethan decided he wanted a pet bunny. Then we went home, and voila! There were two baby rabbits in our grass. Like manna from heaven. I discovered them by almost killing them with the weed whacker. (I love it when I'm doing yard work and hidden animals suddenly jump out from under my yard tools. Love. it.)

Anyway, word spread quickly that baby rabbits were in our backyard, and before we knew it, half the kids in the neighborhood were there holding and playing with the bunnies. Kids came in waves, held a bunny, then ran home to ask their parents if they could keep the bunnies as pets. (Every parent said no, including this one.)

After we played with the bunnies (and surely smothered them in human scent) we put them back in their nest in the grass so the mama bunny can find them tomorrow, and hopefully take them far, far away.

Click here or here for more background on rabbits, our yard, and why the two shouldn't mix.

What that post linked to my blog doesn't mention is that it was always dark outside when Elliott got home from work... so guess who ended up getting to dispose of the frozen stiff rabbit that had guts spilling out of it?
